Dear Members,
Happy Summer to you! Hope things are going great your way. Please remember to visit our website to find out all the happenings that are going on in the community. I know many of you look for things to do on the weekend. www.aberdeencc.com. I'm still trying to get as many brochures as possible. Please send me some, if you haven't already. I especially need restaurants and real estate brochures.
Best Choice Driving School will be having their Grand Opening on July 24th at 11:00 AM. Mayor Mike Bennett will be cutting the ribbon. The school is located next to Curry Real Estate on Rte 40. 200 Philadelphia Blvd, Suite 200. Please rsvp to me by the 22nd if you are able to make it. Refreshments will be served.
LaTolteca (Mexican Restaurant) will be opening in the LaQuinta Inn at the end of the month. Their address is 793 W. Bel Air Ave.
A Wine Bar will be opening in the Holiday Inn in the near future. It's really quite beautiful inside. More info to follow. More info will also follow on Game Stop, that's located next to Panera Bread.
The Prost German Restaurant located at 11 Locust Lane is open and becoming very popular. They now have their beer and wine license. The Steel Horse and Pit Beef Barbecue House, located at 1436 S. Phila. Blvd(Rte 40) also just received their beer and wine license.
Hopefully, you'll find time to visit these new establishments and welcome them to our wonderful community.
Thanks to all of you that sent me messages and prayers for the safe return of my grandson from Afghanistan. If all goes well, he'll be coming home August 17th to Camp Le Jeaune. Most of my family will be going down to welcome him home. We're so thankful for his safe return, some of his buddies were hurt, but none of his close friends were killed. Thanks to all of you that gave me items to send in his care packages, he appreciated them so very much. Our Chamber is made up of some very special people.
I haven't asked Lance about his diet as he just returned from his vacation. I'm sure he'll lose some more weight by our September luncheon. Still time to wager some money as to whether he'll make it or not. This is all for the good of our scholarship fund.
Many thanks to Louise Costello of Long and Foster, one of our board members, for her very generous donation of a beautiful oak cabinet for my office . It looks wonderful. Also thanks to hubby Frank for moving it. You"re both great!!
Can't wait till our September luncheon to see all your smiling faces. This one will be at Ripken Stadium. More info as time draws nearer.
Sincerely,
Janet

“Hit a Homerun and Help the Homeless”
Harford Mutual Home Runs for the Homeless
to benefit Harford Family House, Inc.
Where: Ripken Stadium
When: August 10, 2010, 8am-4pm
Cost: $1,000 per team or $250 per person
Home Runs for the Homeless is an event where teams of four can have a “real baseball experience”. Players will receive an Iron Birds baseball cap, an event shirt, have their photo taken on a green screen.
While waiting to bat, players will sit in the dugout and watch other teams hit. Each player will have 15 pitches to try to hit a home run. The player’s names will be announced as they bat, with play by play commentary as their photo appears on the scoreboard. Mayor Michael Bennett of Aberdeen, Honorary Chairman of HFH's Capital Campaign will throw out the 1st pitch.
The team with the overall longest yardage will “win” the event and be presented with a trophy that will reside with them for one-year.
Harford Family House is celebrating its 21st year of service to homeless families with children. HFH’s one-year transitional housing program provides safe, decent housing and the support services necessary to move families from homelessness and hopelessness to self-sufficiency and permanent housing. And, HFH is the only shelter in Harford County that can serve an in-tact family consisting of a father, mother and children.
Homelessness is on the rise due to the economy and the services of Harford Family House are more needed than ever. HFH experience a 50% increase in request for service in FY 2010.The proceeds from this event will support HFH’s general operating expenses, helping to maintain services at current levels.
Teams can register, no later than August 4th, by going to HFH’s web-site and filling out the online form under “donate now”, or by calling Joyce Duffy at 410-967-3080. . Donations of door prizes and volunteers are welcome.

Call for Purses – Hope in Handbags Purse Auction
To benefit FCCAU, Harford Family House & Harford Habitat for Humanity
The Hope in Handbags 2010 Purse Auction Committee is seeking donations or new, gently used, vintage, celebrity and designer purses to be stuffed and used as auction items or to be sold retail at the Purse Auction event.
Faith Communities & Civic Agencies United (FCCAU), Harford Family House and Harford Habitat for Humanity are partnering to raise funds and awareness through a Silent Purse Auction on Sept. 16, 17 & 18, 2010 at the Bel Air Armory. The funds raised will support Harford County adults and children in need of a safe, decent place to call home.
It is our dream to see homeless families in the FCCAU shelter move into the transitional housing program at Harford Family House. After they have received case management support, it is our goal to prepare them to build and purchase their own home through Harford Habitat for Humanity. Part of that dream has already been realized as some Harford Family House families have purchased Habitat homes!
Last year’s auction was a great success raising $15,000 with an attendance of over 350 people and over 1,000 handbags donated. Most importantly, the event raised awareness for the missions of our three agencies in our community.
Please feel free to stuff your donated purses.
Suggested Purse Contents:
*Restaurant Gift Certificates *Perfume * Jewelry
*Salon Gift Certificates* Retail Stores Gift Certificates
*Movie Passes *Bath and Body Products *Books
